IDEASForUGANDA BREAKS THROUGH SCHOOLS MANAGEMENTS.

The president, Mr. Masereka Adidas and Advisor, Mr.Sinamakosa Isaac, IDEAS For Uganda have today, 25th/01/2013 spent a productive day mobilizing teachers on preparing for engaging students in IDEAS activities as we wait for the beginning of first term come February, 2013.
The Deputy Head teacher five stars model primary school in Kasese Municipality, Mr. Bwambale Julius and Four (4) other staff members were met on the above topic, explaining to them the Vision, mission, and strides already taken by IDEAS For Uganda in planning for sustainable environment focusing on; Water, Wastes, Ecology, Energy and Food, and demanding for their support in mobilizing more youths in the Municipality schools.

KEY OUTPUTS OF THE MEETING.
·         .Identifying Mr.Bwambale Julius as a key mobilizer for Kasese Municipality Primary schools, beginning February, 2013.
·       .  Starting and activating an IDEAS club at five stars Model primary school as early as the term begins.
·        . Mr. Bwambale Julius committing to persuade his active counterpart in one of the secondary schools in the Municipality to also take lead in mobilizing all secondary schools. 

After the meeting, the IDEAS officials surveyed the neighborhood of the school getting a feel of the negative impact environmental degradation has caused to the area like; drying off of grass due to too much sun shine, too much dust caused by bare land, and found wastes disposed off everywhere.

IDEAS-UGANDA HOLDS A PARTNERSHIP MEETING.


Three members of the IDEAS-UGANDA management team (President, Advisor and Vice President) on 29th/12/2012 converged in Virina Gardens, Kasese Municipality for a partnership meeting with the Kasese District Youth councilor.

The meeting aimed at planning for a fast growing movement on environmental conservation in Uganda led and owned by the youths. The Agenda below was addressed; 
  •  Introductions
  • Welcoming remarks
  •  Legality of IDEAS-UGANDA
  • Management of IDEAS-UGANDA
  •  Partnerships and Mobilization
  • Way forward.
  •  Closure.
After exhaustively discussing the above items on the agenda, the following actions were proposed by members for the betterment of IDEAS-UGANDA:-
  • The Vice President and Advisor to finalize the constitution on 5/1/2013 and take on the task of legally registering IDEAS-UGANDA by 11/1/2013.
  • The Kasese District youth councilor to mobilize for meetings  between IDEAS-UGANDA and; Anglican bishop, Catholic bishop, The King of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu(obr) and other local youth organizations  about partnership and mobilization for environmental conservation in Kasese District, scheduled from 4th-15th/2/2013.
  • The IDEAS-UGANDA President working with his team to schedule independent meetings with Districts’ Youth councilors from all regions of Uganda  and Uganda Universities’ guild presidents as a strategy of easy mobilization. These meetings are to be scheduled from March, 2013.
  • IDEAS-UGANDA through the Kasese District Youth Councilor to mobilize council and come up with a district ordinance on environmental protection.
  •    The President IDEAS-UGANDA was tasked to accordingly consult on the establishment of regional coordinators and mobilizers for regional balanced and quick results.
The meeting ended at 04:15pm with the President thanking all members for turning up and promised close working relationship with his team and other development stakeholders to drive IDEAS-UGANDA to its highs for the betterment of the current and future generations.

“IDEAS-UGANDA CAMPS IN KASESE DISTRICT TO ENGAGE THE YOUTHS ON ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY”.

The day was Wednesday, 26/12/2012 when Youth focus on environmental conservation(YOFEC) through Intellectual decisions on environmental awareness solutions(IDEAS-UGANDA) organized a youths sports galla competition with a theme;  Engaging the youths for environmental sustainability at St. John’s seminary, Kasese  District, Uganda.

This attracted over seven hundred (700) youths in and out of school from the five constituencies of Kasese district that presented six teams for the one day galla. The galla was attended by IDEAS-UGANDA Management team represented by Mr.Adidas masereka, Mr. Isaac sinamakosa and Mainuka Paddy, media personnel and the District youths councilor, Hon Baluku Geoffrey Lubangula.The kasese Woman Member of Parliament registered her apologies for failing to turn up because of other official commitments but however advised that the youths councilor could deliver her message to the youths.

Before the games, mr.Isaac Sinamakosa presented a paper about IDEAS-UGANDA, narrating its aims and focus in Uganda at large. He explained to the youths that IDEAS is a youths-led global movement that campaigns for environmental conservation and sustainability in areas of; Water, Ecology, Wastes, Food, Transportation and Energy. He further advised the youths and other community members to join and spread the IDEAS’ message to the grass root communities for the good of our future generation.

Mr.Masereka Adidas later organized the youths into six think tank groups where they discussed their community environmental challenges, causes of the challenges and how the challenges could be addressed. Challenges like; Deforestation, charcoal burning Poarching, poor wastes disposal, poor roads, pests and diseases, poor food storage, insufficient water supply and water contamination were highlighted by the think tank groups. Among the causes, poverty,  over population, inadequate sensitization on environmental conservation, weak laws on environment were given. And the think tank groups majorly proposed the following as solutions to the above challenges;  organizing sensitization workshops, influencing the government to enact strict laws on environmental degradation, building water reservoirs in homes, investing in mini-irrigations, constructing greneries in homes, sensitizing communities on dangers of over population, mobilizing communities for mass clean ups, constructing wastes disposal bins in public places and putting up mechanisms of turning wastes into important products.

The competitions later started and at the end, the best three teams were rewarded, where the first team received a trophy worth UGx 250,000 with UGx 30,000 Cash, and the second and third received UGx 25,000 and 20,000 cash respectively.

MAJOR OUTPUTS OF THE ACTIVITY.
  • ·        Popularizing IDEAS-UGANDA in the district through the big number of youths that turned up and an FM radio presenter.
  • ·        Winning support of the District woman member of Parliament and the district youths councilor who promised to immediately schedule a partnership meeting between IDEAS-UGANDA and the King of the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu(Obr), Bishops of Catholics and Anglicans in the district and Kasese district local government leaders about strategies of enhancing IDEAS work in the district.
  • ·        The youths leaders appreciated the work of IDEAS-UGANDA and requested IDEAS to link them to youths groups in other districts of Uganda and the world at large for a strengthened campaign.

ABOUT IDEAS-UGANDA


Intellectual decisions on environmental awareness solutions (IDEAS-UGANDA) that started in 2011 are a youth led movement on environmental conservation in Uganda operating in the entire country working in partnership with IDEAS-US.
IDEAS-UGANDA is a social eco-enterprise, empowering youths and emerging professionals to drive solutions and implement sustainability programs on campuses and across communities around Uganda. It is not a traditional organization; it leads a movement of youth leaders, green professionals, community organizations, and sustainability enthusiast catalyzing positive change for generations to come with an aim of; enhancing capacities of campuses and communities in environmental conservation and sustainability through application of modern environmental initiatives.
It educate, engage and empower students and communities in six pillars of sustainability; Energy, Water, Food, Ecology, Transport and Wastes.

IDEAS-UGANDA head offices are to be located in Kampala soon but currently being housed by Good Hope Foundation for rural development in Kasese district. It intents to establish five regional coordination offices in a shortest time to come, for a proper and easy mobilization of campuses and communities.

The movement is managed by a team of five youths occupying the posts of; President, Vice President, Advisor, Treasurer and Secretary as below;
